Ode To The Montgolfier Brothers

levitating on Montgolfier gas
the first in flight came down too fast
from the colossal blue

but no man popped up
just a rooster, a sheep, and a duck

Ode To Saint Julian The Hospitalier

oh julian,
like adam through a savage mirror

blood scent caught on the wind, hooves tickling your ear,

you stood naked and muddy in a sylvan garden

gnashing your teeth at writhing beasts

salivating over wriggling masses at your feet
see now that the curse was only meet?
how else would you have found your way?
to altruism’s gain, a release from babylon’s chains

Ode To Erté

watch him fill a glass with sparkling glee

but madam turns her nose up at such things!

swaying slightly, all eyes on her politely

her head begins rising like curtains kiting
pivoting, sporting her elegant slippers

she glides away from monsieur

and his cloud of quippers

in the garden we find her alone, but not in distress

a doting crowd has migrated to gaze at her dress

and the fine lines floating down her velvet curves
that end curling as softly as a kitten can purr

Ode To Ivor Cutler

my birthday suit

should be big enough for two

one of me

one of you

but i’ll have to be very tall

or one of us quite small

maybe i can gain lots of weight

over the holiday

speak to the tailor, too

about my birthday suit

make it big enough for two

it’ll have to be double sewn

or we’ll burst the seams when we grow

and as easy to clean

when we get twice as dirty

my birthday suit

should be big enough for two

one of me

one of you

Ode To Alexander Selkirk

Seafaring deserter,
you disembarking hooligan,
wasn’t the galley fine?

asserting no worth
you made quick work

of being left behind

Don’t be afraid, castaway
years bow and blur like wet wood curves
and islanders who find shelter from time

feel that nothing ends, lost Christian
